A Sublime and Sunny Elopement Amongst the Wildflowers in Crested Butte

Clinking their wine glasses together as they smile amongst the yellow and purple wildflowers, the bride and groom enjoy a lovely picnic on a gradient blanket. The tall green grass and flowers surround them on all sides.

I and D’s love story unfolded over many years. At first, the two connected through their brothers (who were friends), and then they got to know each other online before they finally met in person ten years later. Their connection was the type that slowly and beautifully evolved, until one day, they each suddenly realized they had met the person they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with– the person with whom they were most at home and most comfortable.

I planned the moment he was going to pop the question months in advance. He knew he wanted the moment to include family– which both I and D hold in the highest estimation. So during D’s family’s giant get-together on Christmas Eve, I got down on one knee shortly after midnight, and much to D’s surprise and delight, asked her to marry him.

Although their engagement was very much at the center of everyone’s attention, I and D wanted their wedding ceremony to be private and intimate. They envisioned a day filled with romance and breathtaking beauty… A day replete with love, joy, and laughter set against the backdrop of flowers, mountains, and waterfalls. That is, indeed, what they got!

After perusing pictures, they decided that Crested Butte was just the place for their elopement. On a bright, blue-sky July morning, I met with I and D at their Airbnb and we started preparations for the big day. D looked radiant as she walked towards I for their first look. The two embraced in a vibrant alpine meadow, framed by the soaring peaks in the distance. For the ceremony, I and D hiked towards a summit and decided upon a gorgeous little spot for an exchange of vows and rings. Later, the two strolled by lakes and then trekked to a cascading waterfall. As the sun began its slow descent, I and D enjoyed a romantic picnic in a wildflower-dappled field, where they toasted their future. The entire happy day was capped off by sunset and nighttime lantern pictures. What a perfect summer wedding day!
