October Crested Butte Elopement at Legendary Alpine Lake

From Paddle to Paw, Witness Love in its Purest Form at J + C’s Snow-lopement.

J and C envisioned a wedding day that authentically reflected their adventurous spirits. They sought a blend of privacy and tradition by focusing the activities and celebrations around their bond and interests. "We want the day to feel like us," they said.

On a bright, sunny day in the beautiful Crested Butte, J and C got ready at their cozy Airbnb cabin, giddy with excitement about the day ahead. They had an emotional first look in the backyard, surrounded by a golden bed of Aspen leaves. In tune with their passion for the outdoors, nature set the scene throughout their special day. Hand-in-hand, they set out to claim their frozen altar under the warmth of the October sun.

At one of the area's most treasured lakes, the still blue waters perfectly mirrored the snow-covered slopes. J was positively radiant, dressed in an Eddy K halter-neck gown with a soft train and intricate back details. She carried a fall-colored bouquet by Misty Mountain Floral, fitting for the season’s vibrant hues. C was dashing in a classic gray suit, wearing his grandfather's cufflinks and her grandfather's tie - priceless details to add more sentiment to the occasion.

J and C strolled blissfully along the lake’s shore and spontaneously shared their vows, pausing to wipe each other's tears as they confessed their love. While wholly absorbed in each other and their spectacular surroundings, they were clearly in their element!

After their emotional private vows, the duo enjoyed an intimate picnic on the fresh snow, then paddled across the shimmering waters in a bright yellow canoe. This moment was their first official chance to connect alone after their vows, the calm serenity was gently amplified by the hushed ripples of the lake.

As the sun began to descend, we headed back towards the Airbnb but had to stop for more shots along the way. While the lake photos are always exquisite, shots with the mountain range are a must if you're eloping in Colorado. Here, J brought out her fabulous jean jacket with rainbow tassels, just one of her accessories that I can't get enough of.

In the presence of the famed "purple mountain majesty," the lovely couple, Colfax, and their nearest & dearest held a short ceremony officiated by their parents. We originally planned to hold the ceremony at a mountain pass but were turned around because the snow was too deep and unsafe to continue. Since it was the first snow of the season, it was hard to know the conditions ahead so instead, we pivoted with the family to a backup location. This is a gentle reminder to trust your photographer and their suggestions, and always have a plan B.

As love filled the evening air, C passionately kissed his bride in the deepest dip you've ever seen in your life - it was better than the movies! Still glowing from their dream day, the duo signed their marriage certificate with the help of their fur baby, Colfax—a memory they can treasure forever.
