60+ Intimate Wedding Venues in Colorado for Ceremonies, Receptions + Lodging

Indoor, outdoor, chapels, restaurants and more!

If you’re planning your small wedding in Colorado, this list is for you!

After photographing intimate weddings across the Colorado mountains for years, I’ve learned that the best venues aren’t always the most popular — they’re the ones that feel personal.

This guide ranks the best small wedding venues in Colorado based on intimacy, scenery, and elopement experience.

If you're dreaming of an intimate wedding surrounded by mountains, these are my favorite small wedding venues in Colorado as an elopement photographer:

  • Best alpine views: San Sophia Overlook (Telluride)

  • Best luxury micro-wedding: Dunton Hot Springs

  • Best Front Range accessibility: Brainard Lake

  • Best wild + adventurous: Crested Butte

  • Best iconic Colorado scenery: Maroon Bells

👇 Below I share what each one actually feels like on a wedding day.

100% Outdoor Wedding Venues

Colorado is known for its crisp, cool weather, massive night skies and endless mountain views. With that said, who wouldn’t want to say “I do” under a blanket of Colorado sky? Some of the best outdoor wedding venues in Colorado are listed below.

Maroon Bells Amphitheater during an early October elopement

Maroon Bells Amphitheater

Aspen, CO 81611
(970) 930-6442

Located just outside of Aspen, Maroon Bells boasts some of the most quintessentially “Colorado” vistas. We’re talking postcard-perfect landscapes: rolling hills, jagged mountains, and tranquil alpine lakes. Given that it’s known as one of the most beautiful places to get married in Colorado, it’s an extremely popular elopement destination, so you’ll want to book in advance. Maroon Bells is gorgeous year-round, but especially enchanting in the fall months when its aspen trees burst with electric reds and honey-tinted golds.

  • Best for: Couples seeking one of Colorado's most iconic and postcard-perfect elopement locations

  • Guest count: The space can hold a maximum of 50 people. This is a ceremony-only venue, but receptions can be held at the nearby East Maroon Portal Picnic site, which accommodates up to 75 people

  • Accessibility: Limited accessibility —the main 0.7-mile round-trip trail to the lake is flat, wide, and accessible, providing easy, scenic access. Access to Maroon Creek Road requires a reservation or shuttle during peak season (mid-May through October)

  • Seasonality: Open seasonally from late May through October, weather permitting. Fall is especially enchanting with aspen trees bursting in electric reds and honey-tinted golds; summer offers lush greenery and wildflowers

  • Dog friendly? Dogs are allowed on the shuttle and most trails, except on the Scenic Loop trail, where dense vegetation can be dangerous. Dogs must always be on a leash.

  • Why I love it: Maroon Bells is quite simply one of the most photographed mountain scenes in North America, and for good reason. Those twin 14ers reflecting off Maroon Lake create a ceremony backdrop that's nothing short of iconic. At just $200, it's one of the most affordable ways to say "I do" with a view that feels like a million bucks. It's the ultimate elopement or micro-wedding spot for couples who want their photos to say "Colorado" louder than words ever could

A snowy late April micro wedding at Sunrise Amphitheater in Boulder

Sunrise Amphitheater

1198 Flagstaff Drive
Boulder, CO 80302
(303) 441-3440

The city of Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks manages 155 miles of trails! You can feel completely immersed in nature while staying within the city limits. As far as ceremony locations themselves, the Sunrise Amphitheater can’t be beat. The entire OSMP area is also perfect for that courthouse wedding followed by incredible photos at a nearby park, hiking trail, or mountain overlook. Some of my favorite spots to take after-ceremony photos include the Lost Gulch Overlook and Chautauqua Park. See my complete Boulder Elopement Guide for more!

  • Best for: Couples seeking a serene mountaintop ceremony with sweeping views of Boulder and the surrounding foothills, all within city limits

  • Guest count: Accommodates up to 100 guests for a ceremony; this is a ceremony-only venue with no reception space on-site

  • Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible — a 6-foot-wide paved path leads to the seating area with a 7-8% grade; a ramp to the stage can be requested. Parking is available near the amphitheater

  • Seasonality: The Sunrise Amphitheater is available for weddings between May and October (not available Oct. 31 through April 30 every year)

  • Dog friendly? Yes, leashed dogs are permitted at Sunrise Amphitheater as long as they are on a leash or if their guardians are participants in the Voice and Sight Control Program.

  • Why I love it: Sunrise Amphitheater gives you that immersive mountain experience without ever leaving Boulder city limits. It's the perfect spot for couples who want a nature-filled ceremony with the convenience of nearby city amenities and incredible reception options.

Garden of the Gods

Colorado Springs, CO 80904
(719) 634-6666

Garden of the Gods is an otherworldly paradise featuring distinct red rock formations and brilliant blue skies. With the snow-capped Pikes Peak in its distance, this spot delivers some seriously striking views. Unlike many of Colorado’s parks, it’s totally free to tie the knot in Garden of the Gods—no permit or fees necessary. Unfortunately, that also means no reservations. The site’s designated elopement sites are claimed on a “first-come, first-served” basis, so you might luck out of your dream spot if someone else beats you to it.

  • Best for: Couples seeking a dramatic, no-cost outdoor ceremony surrounded by iconic red rock formations.

  • Guest count: Intimate ceremonies and elopements — there is no formal guest limit, but space at designated elopement sites is limited and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. No receptions are allowed in the park unless you are having a picnic at the Scotsman or South Spring Canyon Picnic areas

  • Accessibility: Very accessible — paved pathways wind through the park with flat, easy terrain. Parking is available at multiple lots near popular ceremony sites. Chairs may only be brought in for the elderly or disabled

  • Seasonality: Open year-round.

  • Dog friendly? Yes, pets are welcome in the park, but must be on at least a 6’ leash at all times, and all pet waste must be removed

  • Why I love it: Garden of the Gods is one of those places that feels almost otherworldly! I love that it's completely free to get married here and doesn’t require permits or reservations. The trade-off? You'll want to have a backup plan and an adventurous spirit. It's perfect for couples who want a laid-back, no-fuss ceremony in one of Colorado's most spectacular natural settings

O’Connor Pavilion

Estes Park, CO 80517
(970) 586-6104

For a more laid-back ceremony and reception, the O’Connor Pavilion in Estes Park offers a covered space and picnic area for up to 140 people, although smaller groups are welcome, too. The seasonal venue (available from May 23 until September 30) is a great choice for an outdoor micro-wedding in town.

  • Best for: Couples seeking a relaxed, budget-friendly outdoor celebration with mountain views, plenty of space for activities, and the flexibility to bring their own vendors

  • Guest count: Accommodates up to 140 guests for a seated reception, with two meadow ceremony sites to choose from. The maximum capacity is 350 people.

  • Accessibility: ADA accessible — though some areas feature rougher terrain. The covered pavilion and restroom facilities are accessible

  • Seasonality: The pavilion is available from May 23rd to September 30th

  • Dog friendly? Yes, leashed dogs are welcome in outdoor areas

  • Why I love it: O'Connor Pavilion is the kind of venue that feels like a backyard barbecue, in the best way possible. I love that couples have the flexibility to bring in their own caterer, DJ, and other vendors, or keep things simple with just the essentials. The volleyball court, horseshoe pits, and fire pit mean guests can actually play and hang out, making for a wedding that feels more like a fun mountain gathering than a formal affair. It's a fantastic budget-friendly option for couples who want stunning mountain scenery without all the strict rules and vendor restrictions

Iconic Dream Lake at Rocky Mountain National Park is perfect for pre- or post-ceremony photos

Rocky Mountain National Park

1000 Highway 36
Estes Park, CO 80517
(970) 586-1206

Located about two hours from Denver, Rocky Mountain National Park offers 415 square miles of pristine natural beauty. If you’re wanting the iconic Rockies as your wedding photo backdrop, there’s honestly no better spot. The park hosts 12 designated elopement sites; each has its own distinct charm. The park also boasts fantastic spots for a sunrise hike before the ceremony (see Lois + Brandon’s sunrise Rocky Mountain engagement photos).

  • Best for: Couples seeking an unforgettable mountain ceremony surrounded by towering peaks, alpine lakes, and some of Colorado's most iconic landscapes

  • Guest count: Varies by location - ceremonies are permitted for groups of anywhere between 10 and 30 guests at designated sites.

  • Accessibility: Varies widely by ceremony site — some locations are easily accessible from parking areas, while others require hiking on uneven terrain.

  • Seasonality: Open year-round, though access varies by season. Summer and fall offer the most accessible conditions; winter ceremonies require advanced planning and weather preparedness. Some areas close seasonally due to snow or other road closures

  • Dog friendly? No, pets are not permitted in Rocky Mountain National Park

  • Why I love it: Rocky Mountain National Park is the crown jewel of Colorado weddings, and for good reason. I love that couples can choose from alpine lakes, mountain meadows, or rocky overlooks, each offering something uniquely breathtaking. The $300 special use permit is a small price to pay for saying "I do" in one of the most stunning national parks in the country

The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

9800 Highway 347
Montrose, CO 81401
(970) 641-2337

As far as Colorado elopement locations go, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is something of a hidden gem. It’s vast, secluded, and relatively unknown. Located about an hour and a half from Grand Junction, Black Canyon boasts some seriously cinematic landscapes. We’re talking dramatic gorges, boundless canyons, and vertical mountainside rivers

  • Best for: Couples seeking a secluded, dramatic ceremony with jaw-dropping canyon views, far from the crowds of Colorado's more well-known national parks

  • Guest count: There are no designated ceremony sites, but observation decks can accommodate small groups. Best suited for micro-weddings under 25 guests

  • Accessibility: Limited accessibility — Tomichi Point is the only ADA accessible observation deck, and there are other viewpoints that don’t require much walking. The south rim offers the most accessible options

  • Seasonality: The south rim is ideal for weddings from May through October/Early November. Much of the park closes in winter; late summer and early fall offer the most comfortable temperatures and dramatic light

  • Dog friendly? Yes, leashed pets are permitted in picnic areas, campgrounds, and parking lots; on paths to overlooks; along roads currently open to vehicles; and only on the Rim Rock Trail and the North Rim Chasm View Nature Trail.

  • Why I love it: Black Canyon of the Gunnison is Colorado's hidden gem. I love that it remains relatively unknown compared to Rocky Mountain National Park, meaning you're more likely to have that secluded, just-us feeling. There's no designated ceremony site, which means you get to choose your own perfect overlook

Great Sand Dunes National Park

11999 State Highway 150
Mosca, CO 81146
(719) 378-6395

When it comes to Colorado’s natural beauty, cinematic mountainscapes certainly aren't your only option. Located in Southern Colorado, the Great Sand Dunes National Park offers some beautifully chromatic backdrops featuring desert landscapes and awe-inspiring canyons. If you’re after wedding photos with an extra remote feel, there’s honestly no better place.

  • Best for: Adventurous couples seeking a surreal, otherworldly ceremony with North America's tallest sand dunes set against snow-capped mountain peaks

  • Guest count: No formal guest limit, but small groups (under 25) work best due to the remote, fragile environment

  • Accessibility: Limited accessibility — the dunes themselves require walking on soft sand, which can be challenging. You can reserve their special balloon-tire wheelchairs if you have someone strong to push. The main parking area and visitor center are accessible, with dune views available without hiking

  • Seasonality: Open year-round. Spring and fall offer the most comfortable temperatures; summer can be extremely hot on the sand; winter brings a stunning contrast of snow on the dunes

  • Dog friendly? Yes, leashed dogs are permitted except inside the visitor center and bathrooms, in the backcountry of the dunefield, beyond the first high ridge of dunes, off of the Dunes Overlook Trail, North of Castle Creek Picnic Area, except along Medano Pass Primitive Road, North of Point of No Return, including Sand Ramp Trail, or in any backpacking campsites located inside the national park

  • Why I love it: Great Sand Dunes feels like stepping onto another planet with towering waves of golden sand backed by the jagged Sangre de Cristo Mountains. I love that it's one of Colorado's most unique landscapes, offering a ceremony backdrop you simply can't find anywhere else. It's perfect for couples who want something completely different from the typical mountain wedding, with a sense of adventure and solitude that's hard to beat
