Sapphire Point Wedding Photos

Ellen + Michael’s Breckenridge, Colorado
Destination Wedding Elopement

“We met in high school when we were both 16. We aren’t your typical ‘high school sweethearts’ since we went our separate ways during our college years. We stayed in touch, though, and ended up getting back together after graduating college – and have been together ever since!

“Now we live in another state with our two dogs, Rosie and Remy, but we fell in love with Colorado during our time there and plan to move back someday. We can’t imagine having our wedding anywhere else!

“I’m not much of a big event planner, so a small wedding in the mountains of Colorado seemed like the perfect fit for us. Now, with COVID, we feel like we had the right idea all along. We are beyond excited for our special day!”

I absolutely adore this love story! It was a gorgeous day for Ellen + Michael’s Sapphire Point elopement. The sun was shining and there was a slight breeze, and just LOOK at that vista! It was the most stunning backdrop for this couple’s exchange of vows.

Sapphire Point is generally a pretty busy spot, with lots of families and kids flocking to the lakeside trails to hike, picnic, and swim. Despite the many visitors that day, everyone was super respectful of the couple’s vow ceremony and gave us plenty of space and privacy.

Sapphire Point Overlook sits between Keystone and Breckenridge on Swan Mountain Road, at an elevation of 9,500 feet. The overlook offers a stunning view of Dillon Reservoir, hemmed in by the Gore and Tenmile mountain ranges. Sapphire Point is a day-use area that can be reserved for two-hour blocks for private gatherings. It is the only designated site where wedding ceremonies are permitted to take place on the Dillon Ranger District.

Ellen + Michael’s actual wedding ceremony took place at a park in Breckenridge, not far from Sapphire Point. The vows were exchanged first and then the wedding party relocated and enjoyed a beautiful sunset ceremony led by an officiant. Temps dropped about 20 degrees after the sun set, but the couple and their wedding guests were prepared with warm layers.

I was honored to help Ellen + Michael pull off their destination elopement in Breckenridge, Colorado – one of our state’s treasures! It warms my heart to hear stories like theirs, and makes me fall in love with my job each time I get another gorgeous Colorado elopement in the books.
