Breckenridge Alpine Lake Micro-Wedding

Alex + Brandon’s Micro-Wedding in the Mountains

About the Couple:

“Ideally, we would be surrounded by beautiful mountain views with our closest family and friends,” Alex told me.

As a fellow traveler and mountain-view seeker, I was overjoyed that Alex and Brandon wanted to make Colorado a part of their micro-wedding dream. And an alpine lake near Breckenridge turned out to be the perfect location to bring Alex’s vision to life.

Alex is a physical therapist and Brandon is a helicopter mechanic—both from south Louisiana. Like many couples, they met through a mutual friend (Alex’s bestie). They dated a whirlwind two-and-a-half years before Brandon proposed.

“We both work a lot and have found a shared love of travel, adventure, and exploring new sights and trying new things as our favorite way to escape our busy lives,” Alex said.

The more I learned about this charming couple, the more connected to them I felt. It was as if Alex, Brandon, and I were old friends. I loved their sense of wanderlust and adventure.

Brandon proposed to Alex at the bottom of a beautiful Oregon waterfall while on a hiking trip and Alex told me she was completely taken by surprise. What an amazing proposal and so perfect for a couple who love the mountains.

Their love for each became official in Colorado in an incredible Breckenridge alpine lake micro-wedding.

About the Day:

The thing I love about photographing Colorado's alpine lakes is that they hold a mirror image of our majestic mountains on their crystal surfaces. It’s like you’re gazing skyward no matter if you’re looking up at the peaks or down into the cool waters. Heaven all around!

Here’s how their Breckenridge alpine lake micro-wedding went down one wonderful day in August.

We started with First Look portraits at Alex and Brandon’s hotel, where they were joined by some of their family. After a half-hour drive, we met the rest of the family at the lake.

I captured some gorgeous moments throughout their ceremony with the mountains in the background. After the ceremony, a summer storm rolled in (which is not unheard of in these parts).

No matter! We deployed our backup plan. But before leaving, we got lovely shots around the lake and were treated to a huge double rainbow that looked stunning against the dark, moody skies.

Back in downtown Breck, the couple and family enjoyed a reception by a small pond where we completed the family portrait session in a fun, urban vibe.

Custom Weddings of Colorado (CWC) was chosen as their wedding planner. Wendee Vezzetti of CWC specializes in the type of mountain micro-weddings Alex and Brandon wanted. CWC works with a great vendor team and I’m so honored to be included.

Alex’s elegant florals were created by Stephanie Hoffmeister Designs; their heavenly-tasting cake was made by La Patisserie Francaise. Quandary Grille handled the delightful reception dinner.
