5 Location Ideas for Your Colorado Senior Portrait Session

Choosing the perfect senior portrait location in Colorado can be overwhelming… Don’t despair!!

Here Are 5 Awesome Senior Portrait Location Ideas

Deciding on a location for your Senior Portraits in Colorado can be hard, as the options are endless! I’m here to help you narrow down your options based on what YOU enjoy the most.  In the end, it’s all about your adventure, your story, and your dream.

If you like hanging out downtown, we can plan a session in downtown Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, or wherever you like to spend time. If a smaller downtown scene is more your thing, we can look into downtown Louisville, Lafayette, and even Niwot.  Each city has their own unique charm, so if one spot means something special to you, by all means, let’s head there!

Let’s not forget about local parks in the cities with vivid foliage, beautiful old trees, winding paths, and attractive water features.  Let’s see what type of location speaks to you. In Colorado, we have a TON of parks and recreational areas.  I am happy to suggest locations if you need ideas, that is my jam!  Some of my clients are happy to hear my suggestions, as long as it is outdoors and in a natural setting. Other clients prefer portraits at a specific park where they spend a lot of time, so that is totally up to YOU.

If you like being outdoors, you’re in luck! Colorado has a diverse landscape spanning arid deserts, raging rivers, pristine lakes, dramatic canyons, and our snow-capped Rocky Mountains.

If you want to try new adventures, read my blog RMNP Senior Portraits – Five Things to Know Before Your Session. Chances are it might make for a meaningful location for your senior portrait session this year.

In 2020, I aim to embark on Adventurous Senior Sessions. This might include a sunrise or sunset hike to spectacular alpine lakes, snowshoeing on the side of a frosty mountain, fishing from a boat on a peaceful lake, a 4-wheel-drive to sky-high peaks, a majestic trip to Sand Dunes National Park… We can literally go ANYWHERE in Colorado… Are you in?

I’ve done senior portraits anywhere and everywhere… and no two senior portrait sessions ever look alike. If edgy urban portraits are more your thing, we can definitely talk about visiting RiNO. The local community of graffiti artists is just incredible, and their walls are always changing, so you’re pretty much guaranteed to have a unique backdrop for your senior portraits.

This is not about location, but about pets. Please, bring your best friend along! I love dogs! I have a 5-year-old chocolate lab mix, she is a ball of energy and a total sweety.  If you own a dog, a cat, a horse, or any other type of animal… wouldn’t you want to include it in your senior portraits? If we do an outdoor session, we can go for a walk together. We can also visit a barn or stable, or just start at your place if you are a proud cat owner. Let me meet you adorable pet and capture the love between you two!

Do you have a favorite spot in the mountains you love to go hiking, camping, or vacationing with family? Let’s consider that for a location option! Together we can explore little mountain towns, take a kayak out on the lake, or stop for an ice cream cone! With a little brainstorming, the possibilities are endless! Your family can come along too, and even take a portrait or two with you :).

Will Bad Weather Ruin my Senior Portrait Session?

Honestly, it won’t.  But inclement weather might make us consider a different date or a back-up indoor location. However, it will also create an opportunity for dramatic portraits – think moody clouds or the wild wind in your hair. When planning a senior portrait session outdoors, I always tell my clients that bad weather is a possibility. But, truth be told, don’t we all love our unpredictable Colorado weather?

Can Popular Locations Look unique?

It’s definitely a possibility that the location you choose for your senior portraits is a popular one.  But, here’s the thing: Your senior portraits will be special because of who’s in them. There are so many options in Colorado … you’d be surprised! But even if you’re set on a prominent locale, scheduling your session for a different time of day (sunrise versus sunset) can also provide great variation.

The more you share your vision with me, the better I can do of making sure I suggest personalized locations for you. My questionnaires are great for determining timeline and location for your senior portrait session. Send me your ideas!
