A Dreamy Elopement in Patagonia: Horseback Riding and Honeyed Romance

D and M marry in Patagonia on a blustery fall day.

D and M first matched up on a dating app, where they immediately connected over their shared love of traveling. After several days of butterflies-in-stomach messaging, they exchanged Spotify playlists and that’s when M realized he had to meet D– and as soon as possible. He cut short a visit with his parents and drove a long 8 hours back to Orange County for his first date with her. M, a meticulous planner, had imagined a perfect night at a popular Italian restaurant that infamously did not take reservations. When that plan unraveled (there were no tables at said establishment for the foreseeable future), M almost unraveled as well. But D– so understanding and so “go-with-the-flow”-- embraced Plan B quickly, and that’s when the spark really ignited. That adventurous, down-for-anything spirit captured M’s heart, and the two fell for each other very quickly.

D and M soon knew that they wanted to grow old and spend their lives together– but they also knew they were not going to go about it the ‘customary’ way. Instead, they booked an AirBnB on a cliffside overlooking the Pacific Ocean and went ring shopping together. They celebrated that weekend in rapturous seclusionlounging on the coast, riding horses through the Redwoods, and stargazing at night by the warm glow of the firepit.

The idea of marrying in Patagonia appealed to both D and M’s adventurous sides. They wanted something totally different, off-the-beaten path, challenging, and memorable. Their big day started very early and very windy, which made for stunning photographs of D in her beautifully classic white wedding dress with a flowing train. M, too, looked handsome in his equally classic black tuxedo and bowtie. Against the backdrop of the towering Andes and imposing gray clouds, D and M radiated pure joy as they did their first look and recited private vows. D’s dress truly seemed to glow in the iridescent light that punctured through the cloud cover. By a marvelously milky blue lake, a rainbow arched overhead through the fog just moments before D and M’s ceremony. On a striking cliffside overlooking the waters, the two sweethearts soaked up the stunning views and luxuriated in their abundant joy.

Back at the hotel– the sun finally victorious in what seemed a day-long battle between wind and rain and cloud– the radiant newlyweds toasted champagne on horseback, before ambling off for a ride through the mountains. An epic end to an epic day, indeed.
